I chose this book because it was $160-$194, and I was able to get a used copy for $25. I thought if it was that high-priced, it must be good.

The first turn-off was when the author listed what I consider to be personality traits that she thinks are important in order to start an internet business. Sorry, but I can't change my personality just to start a business, and there is no way that everyone with a successful internet business meets all or even most of these criteria. What a reason not to try something!

So I put the book down and found another - Internet Riches by Scott Fox, which I highly recommend. Lesson: don't buy a book unless it has reviews - this one didn't.

Now that I've read Fox's book, I skimmed this book so I could write a review since there were none. What I see is a lot of statements of the obvious. Here are some of her helpful recommendations: keep domain names short and easy to remember, make sure your marketing e-mails are relevant and interesting, and use anti-virus software.

Fox specializes in internet businesses, while Strange is a writer who decided to write a book about internet businesses. Fox tells real story after real story while Strange lists fictional "case studies." Fox gives down-to-earth advice (choose a business that is something you know well and have a passion about) and speaks from experience (when starting an internet business, you will make changes several times in the first year so don't invest heavily in high-priced custom websites until you know what you want), while Strange just tried to get the pages filled.

Anything that is valuable in this book (such as useful websites) is also available in Fox's book. In short, buy Fox's book instead. Besides - it's on Kindle!Rating: 1 / 5

This book has undoubtedly earned a place on the bookshelf of today's ISP owner. Its contents were invaluable information required for the business plan I prepared for an ISP/ASP business.Rating: 5 / 5

Very American. Is there a world beyond their borders?
Doesn't mention Data Centers, doesn't talk about market trends such ASPs.
What about market data?
Is the American market really so simple?
A great book on using the web to allow a small company - one person or more - home based or not, to complete with the `big dogs'. I found it very helpful, in many ways, I have to say, it's one of those books that you read, and on nearly every page you get an idea that you can use right away, and (in a good way) it was very frustrating, because it showed me so much that I should have been doing but just never thought about. In fact, nearly everything is very easy to do, and requires little or no money, just about how to deal with/or make use of/ things you would do anyway. The book also provides the sources for the ides so you don't have to look far and wide to put the ideas into effect.Rating: 5 / 5

I have to say the same thing as the first reviewer, there are so many quick and simple but GREAT ideas in this book, that you will wonder where to start first! I decided to actually write them all out, each idea that I could use in my business, then I decided to rank them in two ways: simplicity to do and value to do, then I organized my list by what would give me the best value or visibility i.e. get more clients, and that I could do right away. I hope that helps those who are reading this book wondering where to start from. Rating: 5 / 5

Really useful book on how you can make your small business seem big. There are many, many, (almost too many), ideas here, and I can see that many I should have thought of but did not. Also some I did think about but did not know how to implement.

I have lent this book out now and it had great praise from each of the small business people that read it, I know they have already implemented many of the suggestions.

I think this book should be read by anyone with a business at home, or small company that wants to grow and not spend huge amounts to make it `big'!

Considering all the buzz today for e-business, outsourcing and other business models, it's important to have a way of ensuring the best possible results when moving in these directions. Mr. Hiles' book provides clear insight and guidance on how to plan and implement service level agreements that ensure the best results for your organization. A useful tool is you are new to service level agreements and/or e-business.Rating: 4 / 5

This book is a not bad introduction to ASP.NET. The reason I purchased it is I really needed to master Web Matrix ASAP and Mr. Sussman's book was quite helpful in accomplishing that goal. Of course, it is better to begin with Visual Studio since Web Matrix is somewhat limited resemblance of Visual Studuo but Web Matrix has something nobody could resist - it is free.
Make sure you learn as profoundly as possible chapters about datagrids and reusable content; these two are absolutely irreplaceble components of practically any online database application. Also pay attention to inclusion of namespaces at the very top of your code, it is forgetable. The only thing which was not working for me is Web Services. Other code samples work fine.
I would recommend to start with this book to anybody who needs to master ASP.NET.Rating: 4 / 5

I am new to programming.
This book starts at the beginning: building a graphical web page in Web Matrix. Following a entertaining blend of practical, funny and insightful steps, in a short period I was using Visual Basic.Net and databases to add dynamic features, controls and web services.
I was amazed at how easy it is to do. This book provides an enjoyable was to grasp a firm foundation in ASP.NET programming.Rating: 5 / 5
